Need hardware finishes

Post by Thunderbird712 » Wed Apr 25, 2018 11:52 am

I've asked this before and have made some headway thanks to some great help. Here is a current list of hardware I am trying to determine what the finish is. I'm looking for anything to help such as a person, books, manuals, sources to look up, etc. I am willing to fork over a little money as I know peoples time and effort on researching documents is important. Not looking to get something for free! I have gone through the 45 SNL, Lloyd Whites Volume 1, old threads here, factory pictures etc. The most important on the list are the ones asking if its Cad or plain finish. I'm looking to get things plated soon to keep my project moving forward. You cant determine that from a factory picture. I may have missed a few so I will add them as I find it.

4 wing screws - Air cleaner to brackets
Decontaminator bracket hardware
Glove box door hinge, Oil gauge tub clip to dash, Tool compartment lid #10-24 3/8" machine screw (WO-5182) Cad or Plain?
Harness clips to body #10-24 5/8" machine screw (WO-5064) Cad or Plain?
Harness clips to body #10 5/8” pan head sheet metal screw (WO-52889) Cad or Plain?
Junction block 6 post to dash #10-24 3/4" roundhead machine screw (WO-5272) Cad or Plain?
Junction block 2 post to fender #10-24 5/8" roundhead machine screw (WO-5064) Cad or Plain?
Dimmer switch, Oil can bracket to firewall 1/4-20 1/2" roundhead machine screw (WO-51492) Cad or Plain?
First Aid kit bracket, Tool Compartment locks #10-24 3/8" roundhead machine screws (WO-52236) Cad or Plain?
BO light Guard to Fender 5/16-24 3/4" hex head bolts (WO-53048) Parkerized or Cad plated?
Motor Insulators (mounts) 5/16-24 x 1” hex head bolt (WO-5934)
Parking Brake Cable clip to air cleaner bracket bolt (not sure of part #)
Rear mirror bracket to body #12-24 5/8” round head machine screw (WO-6988)
Fire Extinguisher mounting brackets to body #12-24 5/8” round head machine screw (WO-53267)
Fire Extinguisher mounting brackets to body #12-24 nut (WO-6989)

Thank you for the continued help!

I didnt expect many replies as this particular info is hard to come by for MBs. As such I continue to look for answers. If anyone is interested here is what I am thinking for a couple of items. Let me know if you see any issues with this or know of any info that may contradict this.

I have seen a few threads and pictures that show the wire harness clips screws #10-24x5/8" are Cad plated. I know for a fact that their lock washers and nuts are Cad plated. Makes sense as a plain steel screw would be a bad idea in those locations. The screw part# is WO-5064 which matches the Junction Block to fender screws. I am pretty sure they are not parkerized. That would help confirm the harness finish as well. If the Junction Block to fender screws are Cad plated I assume (yes I used that word) the 6 post junction block to firewall #10-24x3/4" screws would be the same. Their part# WO-5272 matches the Dash pad screws. That would mean they are Cad plated as well. That would knock out a couple of items for me.

I am interested in this because I know some hardware was a plain steel finish. Looking at factory pictures you cant differentiate the two as they both have a shiny finish. You can only determine its not parkerized.

You mentioned that this info isn’t easily obtained for the MB. I don’t have an SNL handy at the moment but couldn’t you use the Willy’s part number to cross reference to the Ford part?

The SNL does have the Ford part # for most of the hardware. There were however differences between the Ford and Willys just as in other parts. For example the bolts for the hood catch brackets and hood catches themselves are listed as S7 Cad finish for the Ford part#. The Willys part# is WO-51514 which is for a plain steel finish bolt. The same bolt is used on the fan for the Willys but the Ford fan bolt part # has an S2 finish.

Another example is the 3/8-24 x 3/4” toe board gusset to frame bolt. The Ford part # has S7 Cad finish. For a Willys bolt it takes a little more digging. The Willys part# is WO-50163 for this bolt. I don’t know the exact finish but I do know it’s not Cad plated. The same bolt size is used for the radio junction box ground cable to frame. It’s description lists it as Cad plated with a part# of WO-52543. A bolt would have a different part# for each possible finish. Therefore I know the toe board gusset bolt is not Cad plated like the Ford bolt. So I assume it would be parkerized like the rest of the body bolts. There are more examples of course.

So long story short you can’t necessarily go by the Ford part# to determine the finish for a Willys bolt. I know the SNL has mistakes so I try to weed through it the best I can.
