Mac McCluskey passed away
I just heard that longtime jeep guy and superb machinist/all around person passed away. I don't have any particulars other than that this was not expected. Mac was 90 this year.
I had the honor of meeting Mac on the MVPA Alaska highway convoy in 2012. He and codriver Eric Lund were in the vehicle behind me. They had to put up with my erratic driving for over 4000 dusty miles.
Mac was an amazing man. He will be missed!
Mac, on the left. He slept in that thing every night. Codriver Eric on the right.
Mac and Eric in Mac's open jeep, ready to rock and roll on the Dempster Highway. Temp was in the mid-30s.

Re: Mac McCluskey passed away
There is no words invented yet to express the void in the world created by Mac's passing. My condolences to his son Dan and wife ( the Pill ). Ten years ago for Mac's 80th b-day at Tower Park he handed out Special Reserve bottles of wine. I brought my bottle back to Ohio hoping the day would be far off when the day came to open it and give a toast to Mac - Well done Mac !!!!!! If any Tower Park / Alcan 2012 groupies are coming to the 2018 Convention I'll bring the bottle.

Re: Mac McCluskey passed away
To all,
Mac was true gentleman and one hell of a jeeper. Mac could fix, make, and just about do anything that needed to be done and jumped right in there and got whatever needed to be fixed and on the road again.
I consider myself fortunate to have met you, argued with you, had a cold one with you and was blessed to have shared time with you.
God Bless you Mac and Thank You for all you did for this hobby and for the people around you,
Frank

Re: Mac McCluskey passed away
Hey all, let me give you what I have.
Mac had a heart attack a few weeks ago. He had a stint put in and all was going well or so we thought.
I talked to Mac on Thursday night. He said he had returned from down south and on the way home he developed a cough. The closer he got to town the worse it got so when he got home he went to the Sutter Coast ER (AKA, Slaughter Coast Hospital or Cutter' Close Hospital) and was told he had fluid around his heart. I asked if it was either pericarditis or endocarditis and he said no but that they gave him some medication to take for 7 days and he should start to feel better in a couple of days.
He was coughing but it didn't seem all that bad over the phone. He told me a guy was coming over to appraise all his shop equipment and it was to be sold in one lot. I asked if he was then going to sell the house and move south and he repeated my question and I heard Yvonne in the background say "you're not selling my house!" We both had a little chuckle and he said "Bill, I can't make any plans for the future. I don't know what might happen."
Mac was very somber with me on the phone, something he's never been with me. He sounded very tired and told me he was not sleeping well. He said he would go from his recliner to bed and back several times during the night so he wouldn't awaken Yvonne. I told him he can't continue that and he said he knew he couldn't.
I think he was nervous and perhaps scared of what was coming. His love for Yvonne (The Pill) would keep him doing anything and everything for her including running himself down. At 90 years old that is not a good thing. I believe he knew what was up and that it was going to be soon.
Yeah, I'm really devastated by the loss of this wonderful man! I've cried an awful lot yesterday. Mac would not want me to but I can't help it. He would have told me to toughen up. That puts a smile on my face. I will miss Mac something really horrible!
Okay, enough of my whining! Mac would not have been pleased with my fussing over him.
RIP Harry "Mac" McCluskey!

Eric just told me that services for Mac will be held on Saturday at 1400 at the 9th St Church of Christ in Crescent City, for those on the Gee who may be able to attend.

Allen, it should also be noted that his son Dan mentioned that they will be planning another get together in honor of Mac and a later date. Dan told me the service was going to be a small local gathering. It was planned for Sunday but Eric called and said it was rescheduled to Saturday. That is all I know.

Re: Mac McCluskey passed away
Thanks for all your thoughts and remembrances of my Dad. I know how much he meant to this whole community on the Gee.
Tom, I will be at the convention and would be honored to have a toast with you to Dad.
We are heading up to Crescent City today so we are planning on stopping by Petaluma for a quick visit next Wed or Thursday.
Yes we will be planning a celebration of life for Dad in the next couple of months in Southern Calif.

Sorry to hear of Mac’s passing. Our condolences to the family
Always a pleasure to talk with Mac, asked him about the secret of running a milling machine for a beginner,
His answer was “just start making chips”, how right he was, thank you for that great advise.

Re: Mac McCluskey passed away
I am truly sorry to learn of Mac's passing.
His Camper "The Pill Box" and Allan Johnson's one were the inspiration for my own "Camperetti".
We corresponded some - he seemed to me to be a Man of Few Words - but what was said, or in our case - written was always worth reading.
Although we never met, he struck me as a kindred spirit.
My condolences to the Family
RIP Mac
