cluster gear bushing and spacer

Post by old arkie » Sun Apr 15, 2018 5:49 am

when the bushings and spacer are installed properly are the ends of the bushings flush with both ends mine seems to have no spacer and the rear bushing is down inside about an inch. This cannot be correct HUH

The bushings should be pretty close to the ends of the gear and be slightly recessed. And pressed in tight. No spacer on a T-84.
Was a spacer used on T-90s. They have needle bearings instead of bushings.
Seems I do recall a discussion, in the past, of floating bushings in a T-84 cluster gear ???
I would think this would need a spacer.

Mike, I'll bet you will remember with another cup of coffee. OEM Warner T-84 Cluster had two floating bushings and spacer, and some of the earlier non Warner aftermarket had same. The replacements we see now have pressed in and staked in place bushings with no spacers. Back in the mid 40's thru early 60's there were other suppliers and their parts were quality.

Interesting intel, Joel.
That is probably the discussion I was thinking about.
You have to figure, on the overall scope of things. I am a new guy.

Just a thought on the "D", Chuck.
Like war time jeeps, was the transmission assembled in more than one location ??
Maybe the "D" was the location for the assembly plant ??
That was the good ole days, Luc. The fun was in the chase. Got more serious later. I caught one. :?

Keep in mind this is the assembly date....not the casting date of the case. I suspect that your case was cast sometime in January 1943...possibly as early as December 1942. The casting date is found on the side and is usually in mm-dd format. Please post the casting date when you have an opportunity.
