Restoration Guide Books ??

Post by Al Rains » Mon Apr 09, 2018 1:34 pm

I have the AAW #1,2,3 books and the TMs. What other books would be the most beneficial for the body off restoration of the 43-44 GPWs. I ask this because, I'm used to restoring 59-60 and 66-67 corvettes as a hobby and there is a wealth of info including factory assembly manuals, chassis restoration books. Judging guideline books, etc. Is there anything of this nature out there that gives detailed pictures, running changes within model years, what F marked parts and fasteners are used and the type of F used on said parts? Just would like to make the old GPW as accurate as it can be. W/O the original blocks, I know they will never be totally correct, BUUUT. Thanks everyone for your response! Al

A copy of this is worth while having as far as the production changes you mentioned. Get one while you can get one.

If you can wait, there will be an excellent GPW Restoration Guide available this fall through the MVPA courtesy of long time g503.com member Mike Wright! He has spent countless hours putting this together. Some draft copies should be available for pre-view at the MVPA Convention this June!

x2 on the new version of the GPWJS Mike has worked on for a long time now! Currently clocking in at 200 pages of info and pics, it will be a "Must Have " for any serious GPW restoration!

Do you know if it'll be available outside of the MVPA? I couldn't afford to keep my subscription but could save up for a copy of the book.

I’m sure it will be available through the MVPA book store at MVPA.org. Be sure to keep an eye out for updates from Mike.

I go with Dave on this one. Rens book is a read full of help and info. As yo get into this hobby more and more, you will soon accumulate a good collection of jeep books. I have about 15 myself, with shelf room for more. Keep us posted. :D

Is the GPW Restoration Guide available anywhere? I can't find it for sale on the MVPA web site. Thanks!

The GPWJS book as far as I know isn't out yet. It was surposed to be available to buy at the MVPA Convention, but for some reason it didn't happen. Mike Wright is the man to be asking, I am and lots of others are eagerly waiting for it to be published :D

Be patient! The worldwide paper shortage is hold up printing. In the meantime, there are a few of us making some last minute tweaks to it while we can. I think I have 8 or 9 different versions of this document.

Hi folks!
Please be patient! IT's very frustrating for me and the "Brain Trust" as well!!! The MVPA is equally frustrated! As Michael O'Connell said we are "tweaking" it as we can until the MVPA says they can publish it. So far over 300 pages and close to 600 photos. Ozzie has been working on the body to frame chart and the Cowl "holes' which you can follow here on the "G". They will be in the Standards.
I wish I knew a timeline but I don't now
Thanks
Mike
