Huge Warning My Friends!!!!!!!!

Post by Oilleaker1 » Tue Sep 27, 2016 3:48 am

Two members have had the same bad sector shafts sold by Omix Ada shear inside the Ross Box. They lost all steering immediately. See the thread and pictures on The CJ2A Page, Technical Info. Sticky. Do it now and save your life! I'm checking mine next. I know I replaced it, but not sure if it's Omix Ada or Crown. This is very serious. Not a joke. Oilleaker

Better yet, for liability's sake, the vendors we use better check into that one!

Maybe we can get Richard Sanders to put his machine shop to work making a high quality shaft?

Am I correct in thinking this part was originally drop forged and the shaft machined after. Not a shaft welded to a forged or cast piece?

The sectors that have been breaking are made by Omix Ada. Yours is not theirs. Type in Omix Ada Sector on ebay and look how they are two piece. They were welded on the outside. The inside point where the shaft goes through the hole is not welded. It shears off at this point. John

Best deadline your Jeep and find a way to ID the features of these bad sector shafts in order to inspect the shaft in your Jeep.

The WAT brand is in fact sold by OMIX-ADA #18027.03. WAT is their premium sector shaft and is what I am running in by build; however, I only have 43 miles on my rig to date. So far, so good!

Wow, thanks for this update. This WAT does not look like the ones that broke. Again see pictures on the CJ2A page now as a sticky in Technical Info. Thanks, John

I purchased mine as part of the master box repair kit from Ron Fitzpatrick. Do we know whether this is one of the affected shafts?

I purchased it in July of last year...

Ron,
Can you post pictures of how your shafts are built and who we can ID them?
