I would be interested to know how many cans had the manufacturers name and other details pressed into(actually out) the can under the three handles. I have one like this. The brand is N.S.I. and it is marked 43. I wonder if someone read the "ISN" upside down on the list above. I have checked to make sure I have it correct and as there are full stops (periods) between the letters, I feel I am correct.
Best regards

To my knowledge the data stamping on the top of the can,as on water/food cans, was done from some manufacturers only in 1943.I did post on this subject with a list of the known makers somewhere on this forum or on the technical knowledge forum.I am far from my computer right now but when back n town I can recheck all this.

Hello everyone,
I just got my very first water can
It has Samco stamped under the carry handle on one side, on the other side it has W then U.S. and 42 below the U.S.
The can is in good condition for its age.
Still has green paint on the cam lock handle, can has surface rust but will clean up with a light sandblast (low pressure of course)
Is this a rare can as far as water cans go
Quite excited as I have only ever seen pictures of these cans up to now.
Have been collectiing for 25 years and never come across any water cans
I would say that they must be quite rare in New Zealand.
Will have pride and place on the right hand foot step of my GPW
Later.

to Brent...
Brent, yes you can be proud of your water can.I always suspected, and some other might confirm or deny this, that some particular year or manufacturer could be rarer in one area, and more common in another. For sure here in Italy, where water cans are not that common any way,Samco is not very often seen. The most common I have seen is Cavalier, and Monarch after that.Of course it might be a coincidence...As for gas cans, the more often seen brand is Wheeling,of which I have all possible WW II years...

Another gas can maker
I found a can that is not on the list yet. Marked on the bottom: ICC5L USSPC-B 20-5-45. This can I inherited from my grandfather. He used it for years for lawn mower gas. Now I use it on my Weapons Carrier.

That ICC is almost always stamped on the bottom, regardless of manufacturer, and refers to the Interstate commerce commission.

maker mark
ICC stands for Interstate Commerce Commission. The maker mark I am refering to is USSPC-B. I don't believe that one was on the list.

Arvin-Moblittsparks
It appears that the Arvin and Moblittsparks cans are made by the same company. I got a 1943 water can today that is marked Arvin Moblittsparks Ind. Inc. 1943.
