WWII LORAN Ground Station Documents

Post by johnseidts » Tue Apr 24, 2018 6:44 am

Hi,
I'm looking for literature about WWII LORAN ground stations. Specifically, I am looking for information on the generator unit which powered the station (photo below). It is a V-twin motor with a steel shroud around it. The top of shroud is a squirrel-cage fan which cools the entire assembly. An actual copy of the literature would be nice, but what I really need is the title of publication and proper nomenclature of this unit. It may have been USN or USAAF equipment. Additionally, the information above was provided third-hand and this unit may have been used for another purpose during the war. If you recognize it, and know the pub covering it, I would appreciate the reference.

The best place for the Long Range Navigation stations docs is here :
http://www.loran-history.info/Loran-A/Loran-A.htm
They are describing the power plants in page 54 of that manual
http://www.loran-history.info/Loran-A/LORAN Xmitting Sta Manual 1945.pdf
They mention the literature related to the generators.
The PE-205-x generators TM-11-970 is likely available from the War dept archives.

You could also contact Roger L. Khem K0ROG. He was on duty in a Loran station in the Pacific.
I will PM you his contact data.

Not sure but your device is perhaps used for cooling/ventilation rather than as a power generator.

Yves,
Thank you for the interesting links. From what I am reading, this power unit is not part of a LORAN station's power section.

Best Regards,
