Looking for radios for 1941 Dodge Command Car
I'm trying to locate any and all radio equipment that would have been used on my 1941 Dodge 1/2 ton Command Car. I'm not a radio guy , don't know much about them. Any help would be appreciated

Re: Looking for radios for 1941 Dodge Command Car
the first thing you need to decide is what type of unit your in.
infantry
artillery.
armor.
AAA
then look up the TO&E
for what level your in
company
Bn.
Regement
division..
cuz they all get different radios

Re: Looking for radios for 1941 Dodge Command Car
I'm not looking to make it that complicated, just want to set it up like 1941 1/2 ton CC with standard radio equipment that it would of had in those days. Trying to keep it simple and basic

Re: Looking for radios for 1941 Dodge Command Car
well thats the problem, because , radios are mission specific. and CCs were regulated to the rear perty quick. after north africa.
but if it was me, and I wanted something really cool and early, ID go with SCR-245. I dont think anyone has done one of those in a CC.

You'll need the 100 pound 12 volt generator and an mp 37 antenna. You should contact zephyr he just installed one in his command car

Re: Looking for radios for 1941 Dodge Command Car
Another question you need to ask is "Do you want to actually operate the Radio" Go to the Amateur Radio Relay League ( ARRL) and check out their band plan. If you decide to play on some frequencies, like those used by the FAA and First responders, the authorities will be paying you a visit and you will be paying a fine that will make you think that the FCC is trying to single handedly trying to solve the National Debt problem with the fine they impose. Make sure your radio operates on frequencies that Ham Radio operators can use, and you should be Ok.
If you are looking for a radio to match the year of your command car, good luck. Putting together HF sets from WW2 is hard enough, getting the prewar stuff is much more difficult. Still, decide what radio you're looking for, and see about getting a copy of the manual. The manual will have a list of components and parts, and will give you a shopping list of the radio items you will need to complete the set. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your set up.
Your best bet is to find out what type radios you want, and getting the operators manual for it. The manual will provide you with a list of components. If actual radio operation is important to you, you need to see if your radio is capable of operating on frequencies that are legal to operate on. Find this out before you buy the radio - the set may not be able to be modified to work the frequencies you can use, and modification will be very expensive if they can be modified. And unless you are good with antique radio repair, you're going to need to find a shop that can fix\modify the radio.
