You are looking at big bucks and more if you want a working set.$1600 for a non working set as pictured and much more if you want working.

Beware of units listed as NOS because there are NONE as the government never surplussed any NEW units. There are only 1950's depot rebuilds.

Be careful about actually using a BC-508. I believe the frequencies this set uses are not legal for you to transmit on. You need the field artillery version of this set, the BC-608, to actually transmit on the radio. For a list of legal frequencies for ham radio operators to use, go to the Amatuer Radio Relay League (ARRL) website an refer to their band plan.

The SCR-608 is the artillery version of this radio, and operates on the 10 meter Ham radio band on frequencies with the phone (voice) section of the band (28.3 to 29.7 MHz FM). SCR-608 consists of the BC-684 transmitter, BC-683 receiver, FT-237 Mount, HS -30 headset, T-17 microphone. The manual for this radio is TM11-620

The SCR-608 is also compatible with the BC-659 vehicle radio

I'm still learning about these things. I found an SCR 248 recently. I understand about the military and LE frequencies, and not using them. I was not planning on getting it in full working condition until well after the restoration was done. I have not "gotten into" radios yet, but can see myself opening that closet some day in which case I hope to contact you and  I do need to do more research on which type of units used the 248.

20-27,9 mc FM frequencies are assigned to the military however they have not used those frequencies in 50 years. In fact no one uses those frequencies.26.9-27.4 mc AM are CB frequencies which is why you can receive CB transmissions over the BC 603.

I see the SCR 284 transmits in the 3800-5800kc (KHz). Where does that fall in the civil use spectrum?

Stay away from those frequencies unless you have a ham license.

That certainly gives me a goal.
