.50 cal Tombstone Ammo Can Markings

Post by dlevy » Sat May 12, 2018 7:03 pm

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if the WWII .50 cal Tombstone Ammo Cans has markings on them originally?

I have not had an luck finding references or photos regarding markings on these cans.

Thanks,
Dave

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen them with simple instructions stencilled on.

I used to have one that had an AA battalion marking on it. None of the others have any sort of markings at all.

they have an arc'ed arrow around the winder slot showing the direction of winding in the 50 cal belts and below that in a straight line is "CHEST, AMMO .50 CAL" with a fed stock number below.....seen is a book on quad 50s somewhere.

I have one that has some markings embossed into the steel. If I remember correctly it says 50 CAL but I'd have to look again to be sure.
