Rack Grade $850. Pistol will exhibit rust, pitting, and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips may be incomplete and exhibit cracks. Pistol requires minor work to return to issuable condition.
So... Yea. I won't spent $850 on a broken and rusted piece of crap. But other people will, and next year we will see these same turds sitting on vendor tables marked up to $1500 each.

CMP has in the past has judged their items critically, what you receive being better than the description, having said that, for all the effort put into the procedure and legalese, having one ( or more ) pictures of examples would have been nice.

I know that the CMP is conservative with their grading, but man, even the top tier of condition mentions pitting in the description. And the lowest tier mentions rust and broken grips? They may require work? That's a bit far even for them, guns that may have questionable functioning issues.

Agreed. Pics are 1000% needed here.

no where does it say in the description they may require work or may have questionable functioning issues. In fact if you carefully read the description even the least grade states Pistol is in issuable condition.

You are correct, just on the lowest grade, same thing to be expected on lowest grade of Garand

I am glad that I bought three of the USMC Colt M45 1911 pistols last year when they were briefly released. I will be sitting out this one CMP.

When has the CMP sold rifles that were expected to be broken on arrival? I can't ever recall them shipping out Garands, 1903s, Carbines, 22s, whatever, that required work to get them functioning. That has never been on any description that I've read. Part of the CMP process has always been them gauging and replacing broken and worn parts as needed. Broken grips? Have they ever sold graded rifles with broken stocks?

It sounds, to me, like the CMP is just getting a bunch of issued guns in and then selling them as it. If its nice or notable, it'll be auctioned, but these descriptions give me the feeling that they aren't going through them like they do the other guns they've sold.

You have to meet some qualifications, for the ability purchase of any weapons from the CMP.
See the CMP web site, for details.

This is an entire separate entity from the other CMP and they don't have same data base or anything so what could have been reasonable prices based on condition are going to be higher just for cost of this program. I'll bet at least 200 bucks per gun are in for that. Read 3rd line under procedure for purchasing.

Many times rack grade Garands were in need of a rebarrel with MW up to 7. I have personally gaged hundreds of them. They also would have badly cracked ,mismatched handguards and stocks

I'm not interested in them; I have "owned" several hundred of them if you count the ones on my property books in various units in the Army. And opened a few, personally. But for those who want a genuine Ex Govt 45, go for it.
