Actually, they moved the stock numbers from the bottom of the butt to the inside of the barrel channel.

Right, they stopped external numbering early on, moving them to the inside in the barrel channel. Then in 1944 they stopped even doing that. BYF, BCD, BNZ, DOT, whoever else, had entirely unnumbered stocks. This was the Kriegsmodel era and so forth.

The Kriegsmodell was approved in November 44, Those and the 45s I have, are not numbered at all. I have at least one of every maker for 44 and 45.

So we are on the same page them, the stocks were not numbered late in the war.
