Re: My WWII Ordnance Restorations UPDATED 7 November 2017
I have two .30 cal ammo crates that I am making new bottoms for. Does anyone have an idea where to get the large "wingnut/washer" for holding the tops on??
I do have all four of the "hoops" that go around the crate but no wingnut/washers. So I will need eight of them. The crates I have do not seem to have any marking on them from having been "banded" with metel strap for shipping. Was this normal or am I missing something?
I seem to remember that the air cleaner on my Dads 65 Ford PU used that stile but can't find on to check!
Thanks,
Chuck

A few new recent restorations:
A 1942 U.S. M55A1 practice projectile. Before and after restoration. Sand blasted, epoxy filled and sanded, painted, created the stencils and painted again then polished the rotating band:
And a 1945 British wooden ammunition box. Before and after restoration. Sanded, color matched and painted, created stencils and painted again:

Re: My WWII Ordnance Restorations UPDATED JUNE 2018
New restoration work! First let me say, I am not a fan of people stripping down perfectly good practice grenades and rockets and turning them into the HE versions. With that said, these WWII era Practice Rifle Grenades were in HORRIBLE condition!!! The were fired, the fins dented and missing and the same goes for the nose cones. Plus, lots of pitting and holes. So, a bit of careful work, sand blasting, epoxy and welding, reshaping the fins and remaking some of them, then painted and stenciled (painted two of them in the pre-1943 ordnance yellow, which was the standard for all HE ordnance). Re-made all of the arming pins as well! From the original pile, I was able to save 10 of them. Enjoy!
Thanks,
Van

You can’t see them on the other end. It doesn’t matter what color they are! Beautiful work!

Bloody nice work!
I repainted one of my practice rockets that had already been repainted black, the other I have still has nice markings.
Would you mind sharing your stencil plans?

Have you ever made fuse arming wires for 60mm rounds?
I have some replica fuses that were machined in detail but I have
not been successful in trying to make the wires.
Thanks,
Rex

I need some as well. I've toyed with the idea of doing some myself, just haven't had time to do it. If/when I get around to it I'll probably post some in the Weapons section.

Yes, I have made fuze arming wires for both the M52 and M52B1 fuze used on the 60mm and 81mm U.S. mortar. Pictures are on the first page of this link. They are tricky to make, for sure! But it can be done!

Re: My WWII Ordnance Restorations UPDATED September 2018
Hi, I am trying to make a M6A1 rocket since I cant find a real one for my bazooka. I was hoping you might help me out by talking a picture of both rockets along side a tape measure. It will help me figure out scale of the parts.
Thanks Rob

Rob,
Plenty of M7A1 practice rockets out there. Would be much easier to buy one of those and paint it.
Thanks,
