WWII Ben Hur side racks & Top bows wanted

Post by SteveG » Tue Mar 28, 2006 7:03 pm

Looking to buy a set of original side racks and top bows for my WWII steel 1 ton Ben Hur trailer.

Not looking to make these racks and bows, just want to buy a set of originals.

If you only have the racks or just the bows, that would be OK also.

Also, anyone have a used canvas cover for my wooden Ben Hur, that I'm not restoring?

Please click on my e-mail icon to e-mail me direct. brakeboosters@sierratel.com

Thanks in advance.

Steve,

Good Luck....

I have been looking for 2 sets for 2 trailers for years. Finally I wanted one for this summers circuit so I had to make my own. Used the plans on the CCKW site.

There was a guy at Aberdeen who had some NOS parts for the rack. Mainly the "C" brackets to hold the top bows on. I will seek him out this year. PM me and I will pass on his info if he is at Aberdeen.

The plans can be found here:
http://www.cckw.org/rack_plans.htm

Here is the in progress result.

I still need these racks and top bows. Too bad I'm not in Europe. I bet there were stacks of these over there as it seems some countries scrapped tons of WWII Ben Hur trailers.

I have a set for my wooden Ben Hur, but would like a set for the steel trailer also.

Thanks, SteveG

OK, how about some of the hardware that goes on the wood side racks? Anyone have any rack parts, especially cast parts?

There were stacks, then they were burned! Sad, but true.

Basically around 15 degrees... It is based on the angle of the bow bracket: The end of the top bow will carry the vertical line of the uprights. The side of the bracket where it slips into the bracket on the upright...

It is kind of nebulous...

Hey ng19Delta, Brent Mullins Jeep Parts in College Station Texas has N.O.S. bows with the bracket. They are dated 1952 or 3 though. I bought 4 for my Ben Hur and they are in really great shape and only $50.00 each...
