Hey Gents, Today was a very nice day for watching paint fall to the ground. I have been making headway with the paint removal from my trailer and here are two pics. of what is going on. Doing a little bit work everyday nets some very positive results. She's gonna be back in green very soon. :)

I removed the data plate for safety. I didn't want to take a chance on destroying it. I am a little miffed that I was unable to find the registration numbers. Does anyone know if they can be found by using the serial number?
Thanks for looking.

My Ben Hur was issued to the Post War 14th Fighter Group at Dow Field, no sign of its' original registration, but it has a USMC registration stamped on top of one of the Draw Bar Rails.

Did you ever get the brake shoe springs?

YES Ben, I did. I was looking through ebay and found some other brake springs for the trailer and asked the guy if he had the one I needed. I sent a picture of the port brake assy. and the guy wrote back saying that he had several. It is coming from the Netherlands and should be here in a few days. Thanks for asking :) . Just think about all the stories YOUR B.H. Trailer would tell if it could only talk??!!
Also thanks for the tip on the draw bar rail. As I remove more paint from them, I hope to find something there. D.

Am sure that the Bendix Numbers in the SNL for the springs might be still good. I have a Wagner book that shows all their springs and colors., but no interchange

Thanks Ben for that particular info. I'd love to see those books you have, especially because everything is so computer-based now-a-days. Only the "Old School Boys" know how to read the books-o-the past anymore.

The spring for the brake assy. in my Trailer finally arrived. The vendor in the Netherlands told me in a note that if I was to pay for a different spring that I didn't need, He'd send it AND the one I needed. I told him thanks, but I didn't want to take something I would never use or that I didn't pay for. I requested only the spring I needed and it arrived yesterday................SIX BUX!!

I have not approached a WAGNER Dealer to see if they can interchange the BENDIX Numbers listed in the SNL G-518.
I Do have a NOS BEN HUR Backing Plate Assy. w/Cable in my spares. I had some NOS Ben Hur Axle Assys. that I tore down a couple of for parts. All is gone now.

And finally, the abused Veterans are beginning to get the last laugh at the V.A. Too late for many, tho.

Hey Gents, I have a new update on my trailer. Last week I installed the brake shoe keeper spring and turned the wheels around so the sandblaster could get into and under my trailer. I took it to a place very near to where I live and the results were pretty good. Here are some photos of the latest exercise.

This photo has a bit of a blueish hue to it due to my old flip phone, but you get the gist of it.
Image

The guy missed some paint in several areas, but my angle grinder with knotted wire wheel made short work of the left over paint.
Image

The Red Oxide has been applied evenly and generously. I found that Rustoleum makes Flat Black Primer as well. I'm thinking about whether or not to spray some over the R.O. Primer to follow the procedure of the original paint application.
Image

Another phone shot, but I'm finished for the most part. There are still a few small areas I need to spray, but that won't take long tomorrow.
Image

After it is in color, I'll swap the tires over to a pair of 1941 wheels I've already painted and have been saving. They have a different center to them but the offset is still the same. My N.O.S. fenders should be arriving any day now. They will receive the same attention everything else has had.
Thanks for looking.

Do you have the Guide for the landing wheel fork that keeps the stowed landing gear in place?

No Ben I don't. There are a few touch-ups I need to take care of before I paint it that involve welding. I will be on the look out for the guide as I go along.
