Re: WWII Ben Hur side rack hardware repro project
The hardware is finished. Will contact those on my list who are waiting for a set. The pieces in the first photo were made by Leonard Nettles and are available through him. His latches include the backing plate, not shown in the picture. His posts are on this thread to contact him. The second photo has the pieces that were made by my guy. I will give his payment info to those waiting. The price for the pieces my guy made is $250 plus shipping. Leonard's prices are posted on this thread.

Re: WWII Ben Hur side rack hardware repro project
Keep in mind the costs to make these pieces when deciding whether to order or not. Leonard's pieces required molds, casting and machine work for the sockets and dies and press work for the latch cover along with the labor to make the handles and backing plates for the latches. Lots of work there!! My guy's parts required tons of labor to make all the different pieces you see. Overall, a bargain, if you figure the hourly rate at a shop to have these made!!

Thanks I enjoyed the challenge of making the die for the latch cover. I am not a pattern maker so I had to send the pivot out to have a mold made. I am kind of a shade tree mechanic and love to tinker in my shop. I hope the product met your expectation.Tinwoodsman wrote:Got my parts from Leonard today and they look great. Re: WWII Ben Hur side rack hardware repro project
Two new developments on this project:
1. The search for the elusive 12/24 step head bolts for the latch assemblies has proven fruitless. Leonard Nettles is exploring getting them made.
2. Leonard Nettles has also taken over the side rack hardware manufacturing project for all the pieces. He will be personally making the complete hardware sets. Please contact him to discuss your needs. He has posted on this thread, so you can find him here. Thanks Leonard, for taking this on!!

Re: WWII Ben Hur side rack hardware repro project
Thanks Steve. I would like to make a bolt set kit for attaching the hardware for the people doing top notch restorations on the trailers. Steve it seems you might have a complete set of original bolts. If you do please contact me and we can talk about how you can send me the dimensions so I can make the bolts. If there is anyone out there that is interested in the proper bolts for the hardware please contact me I need to order steel blanks to make the bolts.SteveG wrote:Two new developments on this project:

Re: WWII Ben Hur side rack hardware repro project
Are these hardware kits still available? Did Leonard ever figure out the step-head bolt problem?
Thanks, Dave
