Halftrack storage lockers and driving vibration noise

Post by HDN » Sat Oct 14, 2017 12:11 pm

One of the hardest things about driving my M3 Halftrack is dealing with the vibration noise coming from the rear body. I attribute this mostly to the storage box lids where the seats would go along the rear insides of the body. I haven't gotten to a point in its restoration where there are seats or anything else on the lids, so I imagine that would help some.

In the mean time, I'd like to know a couple things:

1) Did the storage boxes come with felts or canvas lining/cushioning where the lid contacts the rest of the box?

2) Were there straps fixing the storage box lids to the boxes?

Any pictures would be helpful!

No straps, no felt. They weren't built for the collector with sensitive hearing. They were built simple, and durable, and with the hope of lasting just a few days in combat. A full set of seat cushions on the lids would help with the noise. Even with a full set of cushions, and full load of 13 guys, it's still loud when you get up in 4th gear.

That's good to know, thank you! I can put up with the noise (used to it playing in a couple marching bands). I guess I really need to get a tach for the thing, otherwise I really can't hear what the motor's doing while moving along :P

I have some small diameter rubber hose with a cut down one side and slip it over the edge so when the lid sits on it won't be metal to metal. Works for me.
