Hi all
I have recently purchased this 1942 741b in the uk
It looks like a very old restoration or maybe a post war British army dark green, it does have a bakerlite switch under the seat, I am struggling to find much info on these bikes so any comments would be great
Regards steve

Congrats on the purchase. I wish I could assist on this, but I'm a WLA guy. I'm unable to view the photo bucket images, not sure if others are in that boat, but the G503 hosts images that are less than 256k. Just click on the attachment tab below the post when you make one and you can upload directly to the forum.

Cheers and GL

Congrats on the purchase...nice bike!
I'm more of a WLA guy...like Oz..but what info do you need?
Most 741's were sent to Russia...and as the story goes they returned them by the thousands for being too light for the job.
The brits and kiwi's got their share too, and it was more of their liking..

Thanks for the replies, I have spent about 4 hours trying to post pictures, I am sorry you can't view them.
Lib45, can you view them?
I am just trying to find out how original my bike is and if any other 741s have been painted in this post war green, I just can't seem to find many pictures of them in ww2
Thanks steve

Hi, I hope now these pictures can be seen
On the air box I have no embossed writing which I have not seen yet on other Indians or Harley's, I thought it my be repro but when I took it apart it has the gauze filters cork gaskets and original olive drab paint inside
Thanks steve

The first two years of the square filter-production it had decals, the later versions had either an embossed plate spotwelded to it or the text embossed directly into the body.
From the photos shown I can't see anything wrong with it, but then again I'm no expert.
There are still a few around over here in Holland, but not as much as WLA's and WLC's..so it seems.

You have a really nice bike there Steve, and from what i can gather ,they are quite rare here in the U.K. Im no bike expert, but there doesnt appear to be anything wrong or out of place on it. A great purchase. Are you anywhere near the midlands ? I would love to see it. :D

Its great to see things in more original condition like yours. Restored is nice, but this is great.

Again..I agree with Oz; although the color has a shade too dark for being factory-correct...leave and enjoy it!
During the early years of WWII colors used were not standarised, esspecially in the British Army; several different OD's were found ok.
So your bike fits that bill..
