Thanks guys, I love the patina on this bike and because of its hopeful originality I am leaving her as she is, although I think I will have to replace the wiring loom, it's looking very frayed in places.
When I opened up the saddle bags they were stuffed with newspaper from 1980!! It has spent over a decade bricked up in a house with no exit.

No harm no foul on the new wiring! if it needs it replace it many bike have gone up in flames because of old wiring shorts and fuel vapors.
