48 cj2a grounding questions

Post by 42GPW » Tue Nov 21, 2017 5:45 pm

Okay I have a 1948 cj2a. 12 volt. I cannot find any information on all the grounding locations. But when I go to images I see where guys have grounded everything including the muffler pipe, to the fuel lines. I do not want to go to that extent. What are the major areas that I need to ground? i e, engine ,chassis, body, Etc

Always ground battery to frame then ground across the engine mounts between the frame & engine, plus ground between the frame & body. Make sure the grounds are adequate dimensionally for your 12V system.

Understand how system parts interact with one another. GOOD parts can then be established & the NOT GOOD problem/s part/s isolated for repair or replacement.

The jeeps that had everything grounded to everything else was the " suppressed " jeeps.
Static build up in the different jeep parts emitted radio signals ( static ) that the other side could pick up with radio listening equipment. Not a good thing when you are trying to be stealthy. By grounding everything, it helped to considerably reduce this static.
This not necessary on your daily driver.
Just do as John said and life will be OK.

Foot Note: See you are back in OZ, John. Did you have a good trip ??
