CJ-2A ENGINE ID Help U51084
Guys,
Recently acquired a "barn find" 2A with an L-4 that was parked with the hood up. Birds, mice and other critters made it their home. Engine is locked, rusted and beyond a costly fix. I found that the L-4 engine has an intake/carb like the early wagon or jeepster. Any help as to this engine application is appreciated. Very faint stamping............. U 51084
Thanks,
Brad

"U" engines were in Wagons. I believe U stands for Utility.

THANKS,
Does this number fall into an early, mid or late production range? Just curious. No plans to rebuild the engine as I have better donor engines.
Appreciate the response.

This certainly is not an end all reference but if the 6 came out in 48 it would indicate 46 or 47 year.
oops I didn't put the wiki link up.

I'd say 1947 but I'm not positive. Hopefully Sean Collins sees this thread, he would know for sure.

Re: CJ-2A ENGINE ID Help U51084
Sorry guys, though this thread had been fully resolved.
"U" prefix engines were used in model 4-63 vehicles (Station wagons, Panel Delivery, etc).
1948 4-63 serial numbers went from 44051 to 84825, so U-51084 is '48
