Thanks everyone, I'm very pleased to have purchased it. Without the advice I received I would have been hesitant. I still have a GPW waiting to be restored but thought about tackling the trailer first just for the experience as I have never done anything like this before.

That's another pretty good idea. Comparatively, the trailers should be simpler and less expensive, while still giving you some good experience with metal work, welding and paint.

This is the engine in the generator. Any ideas why there are two sets of numbers? There is a MB stamped before the top set
MB-456251 is the engine serial number. I'd love to know the casting date on the engine (and if you remove the oil pan the machining date), That's an early Aug 44 block. It's probably not original to the generator.

167682 may be the serial number of a Jeep it was installed into (as a replacement engine) or the work order # from its installation into the generator.

Seth, thanks for the information. Casting date is either 7-23 or 7-28, can't make the last number out clearly with the photo I have. I'll double check next time I'm there.

Thanks. The close engine that I have in my database was cast 7 - 29 and installed in a Jeep that was delivered on 8/10/1944 so that's in line with what I expected.
