I'd be closer than that these days Bill....

Willys MB-T
Serial Number: 62686
DOD: March 1944
USA Number: 0631831

Last month of production...very close to the end serial number-wise.

No way I know of to tell where/how the Swiss obtained theirs, but they took very good care of them!

Thanks, I was hoping someone would help me out with the numbers. Will repaint in the Spring when warm weather returns. Somewhere I found some numbers and came up with Ser #58575, 2-44 , USA 0628890 Will also change to late Willys deRuyter plate.

Joel....if you decide to do the stamping yourself and not have Robert do it....get in touch with me. Both Bantam and Willys put the markings in different places during production and did them differently in general. I would suggest you have Robert do it as he has a large data base of original plates and will do what I do....and that is to look at others close to your serial number for the characteristics they have at that time.

Mind if I share too? This is the one we bought from Frank P from Tehachapi in 2004 (or 2005?). These are pics when we brought it home back then.

Yes, we were so lucky that this one happened to be THE most bestest one of the whole lot :P

The smaller swiss lunette works better too!!

I don't see a dark green "X" on the front side??? Although all of them were nice this is not one of the "bestest" :?

I seem to remember that a seafreight container showed up and 20 of them came out of it at once....
The thing is....all of them looked pretty good compared to most of those we run across these days, but all had the extra badging on them, wavy floors, some dents in the tub walls and had been through the Swiss rebuild program with some modifications.

I remember Joel's trailer...we loaded it up for Dave when he left Tower Park and it was a pretty nice one to begin with....

I wonder what one of those would go for these days!

And remember, whenever these rare trailer opportunities arise, the early bird gets the worm. There was a lot of "tire kicking" by one particular person, and it was his loss as he missed out on a good opportunity.

Chuck, there was 22 of the trailers and it took me quite a bit to get them all out and put together. The first three were particularly difficult to get out because there was no room at the rear of the shipping container to work. I had to put them together standing up on their rear panels then turn them and push them out. Once the first three were out I had some room to maneuver a trailer around and upside down, put it together and push it out the back lunette first and flip it to it's wheels and onto the ground (four foot drop). I did this all alone and I thought I was going to kill myself a couple of times  I moved over 11,000 pounds that day by hand! I chopped my 100 foot air hose in half early on by dropping one out the back of the container. :x

I removed all the Swiss mods on most of the trailers and boxed them up. I ended up tossing them away.

Yes Joel, that was a very rare opportunity and I doubt one that will come around again anytime soon.

And the deal to the trailer from California to Maine went like clockwork, it was all done by the equivalence of a handshake.

Are these from the same batch of trailers which were at Mullins' 3-4 years ago? I remember seeing one which had been moded with tailgates front and rear. Never really understood why a tailgate in the front. It may have had jackstands on the rear, can't remember. A friend bought one and liked the small lunette better. It doesn't rattle as much as the correct one.

To those that made my trailer possible nearly 10 years ago, I have not forgotten the favor and say a silent "thanks" every time I open the barn door and see the happy MBT parked inside. :)
