Dimensions of WW2 trailer

Post by Al Rains » Wed May 23, 2018 1:27 pm

What would the overall dimensions of a standard 1/4 Ton WW2 trailer be from side to side and the back to the lunette end that goes over the pintle. I want to make sure I have enough room in my short bed P.U. or enclosed trailer for one, if I purchase both a WW2 jeep and trailer. Enclosed trailer is 16' long by 6'-4" wide. Truck id a crew cab with 6'5"" bed but does have a cross tool box with full length side boxes.

See: http://jeepdraw.com/images/jeepdraw/TRA ... 81-1-5.pdf

Overall Length ................. 108 1/2"
Width............................. 56"
Height (Loaded) ................ 40"

I fit my Jeep & Trailer on my 16' Tandem Axle Trailer with the tongue of the trailer under the jeep, but I can't swear that the back end of the trailer isn't hanging over the front rail. (It probably is.)

I have hauled M-100's on a short bed full size 90's Chevrolet Pickup andused 4 plastic Milk Crates to set the inverted trailer on. The Draw Bar will hang out over the closed Tail Gate.
Length of tub is 72". Back of Trailer to tip of Lunette is 108 1/2 " Weight is 550#.

Sorry to be so late getting back to the post, guys. Don't know how many people you use to pick that thing up to get it into the truck bed, but I know 2 can't do it on my end. Wow! As for the loading issues on a 16' trailer, we had major issues loading the trailer into my 16' enclosed trailer with the GPW up about 1" from the front end of said enclosed trailer. We, too put the tongue under the jeep, but had to do it at an angle with the trailer angled and hanging partly out the back so I could get the rear doors partially closed and tied off. The PO said it looked like one of the duck tailed semi's going down the road. Took longer to load everything than to drive the 5 hrs up to purchase the GPW and trailer, but it was well worth it. Open trailer would have been better for loading purposes, but you have to work with what you have sometimes. Again, thanks for the responses and hope this helps someone else out in the future!
