Re: M151A1 ford combustion process
Jason: I did a lot of digging to find the original info, if you look through some other posts you will find his photo's and copies of the Army testing program he mentioned. Texaco was the competition and fared less well than the Ford.
What makes it "different"? it's a survivor of a test program to possibly repower MUTTs with Fuel injected engines, at a time when EPA started breathing down the neck of even the military.
The bottom end of the motor should be an identical MUTT engine, but the top end was all custom parts to conduct experiments with timing, quantity and fuel being sprayed into the combustion chamber and pressures to allow the program to tweak it here and there for optimal performance. They succeeded, but then not too many of us have a budget to keep a program like this running.
- If kept as an experimental MUTT, (Museum?) I would suggest the purchaser as Ford for their records on the project, maybe find some of those that worked it (Facebooks great for this) and possibly get her started and moving. Then add lock nuts to the adjustment screws to lock her down...
-If bought for refit to standard, they are going to need to source an engine, fill in some drilled panel holes in the dash, remove wires that were added for sensors, likely an exhaust system too, and you'll end up with just another MUTT.

Re: M151A1 ford combustion process
I saw the fuel injected mutt at the museum in Danbury CT before it closed, interesting concept and I was curious if this on was similar or different design. The one in danbury was also FI.

Re: M151A1 ford combustion process
It is interesting that Ford dropped the ball on the project and then Honda picked it up and ran with it, really really far! The stratified charge engine that is. It is all history from there.

Ok........................ I hope you are not going to just scrap that motor. If you are please at least document the motor well with a ton of pictures along with all of the controls. Remember this is one of only two made and only one of that motor.
