I use the U shackles and cross chains or straps on front and rear.

At the back, you can go from below the axle from rear to front, lap over the front of the pumpkin and then under the axle and back to the trailer. This reduces the number of straps by 1, avoids brake lines and secures the weight. Using the pointless can cause the strap to jump out and might bend the hook.

Interesting pic of the jeep in the C-47.
I went through load master training on how to load and secure an APC in a C-130. Empty weight on an M-125-a1 in this case is 26000 lbs. Add the load inside.
The track was chained down, attaching the chains to the road wheel axles. Not the chassis.
The hook and chain was put over the axle and looped back underneath and hook put on the chain as close to the axle as possible. No slack in the loop. In the event the chain did loosen up, the slot in the chain hook was down, Not up, and gravity would keep the hook from falling of the chain.
6 chains forward. 4 chains to the rear.
The reason, braking forces on landing. G forces during landing could be greater than on take off.
Back to the pic. The jeep is tied down by the axles from what I can see. The ropes on the pintle hook are to help keep the jeep from moving forward. Same as the extra chains forward on an APC ??

Yes probably. May also serve to stabilize movement of the top half of the jeep, as the ropes on the axles are plenty sufficient to keep the vehicle in place, assuming they are in tandem with 2 like ropes on the front axle.

They are independent ropes and would also serve to limit lateral motion too.

Went back for one more look at the C-47 with a jeep tied down in it.
That is when it hit me.
They sure put a lot of faith in Manila ropes ! Might be OK on a balmy summer afternoon but not sure about severe turbulence.
Also wondering. How did they get a jeep into a C-47 ??
The only C-47s I recall only had side, walk in entrances on the left rear side ??
Be a real project to stuff a jeep through that one.
Maybe disassemble. Carry it in, in pieces and reassemble inside ??
In the Army. all things are possible !!
Just ask the Commanding Officer !

Ask and ye shall receive...

1” Manila rope will tow a half track....till the HT driver rides the brakes..... so times....6 or 8....might be feasible.

A litle ingenuity and enough warm bodies, anything is possible.
