Re: M151a2 Heater
Heaters came in kit form for refit at motorpool level, possibly at Depot upon arrival in theater where cold weather was anticipated before issue.
I do not think it was a factory option either way, as the factory cranked out the basic model, then the accepting gov agency determined where they were shipped to, which was based on need. This in turn dictated cold weather or such. Hardtops were another kit, as well as extreme cold weather heater kits, MG mount kits, etc. About the only differentiating factory mod would be the recoilless rifle equipped jeeps where actual rear panels were welded in. This was recoilless only as the TOW was a refit kit with I believe depot level affixing a tag to the dash making it an M825 VS. M151 series.

About the heater, this mutt vender told me that is one of the hardest tasks to do in a mutt.I put one in a 151, pretty tight fit, wasn't done in 15 minutes either!!

Getting ANYTHING under the dash is brutal and the entire heater system is under the dash.

Re: M151a2 Heater
From memory the -34 (depo level) covers it and provides a template for the vent(s), the -20 (unit level) will only cover parts or the whole unit as a swap out.
I say vent S because there are different periods (early) with a vent on the drivers side, then one on both sides and finally the passenger side only. Perhaps the "both" sided jeep started as an early with a subsequent mod for the passenger side. It's a whole 'nuther' string of investigation, HOT topic

Re: M151a2 Heater
The early 151's with the two cowl vents had the vents regardless of heater installation. The vent on the passenger side was only put there as part of the heater installation as was the slave cable plug. I never saw one with only one vent on the drivers side.
