1st clue to me was no canvas door retaining channel going up and down the cowling/windshield side, then the perfection of it all, followed by looking for the bodyline rolling, etc.
Nice jeep nonetheless, but definitely not US military issue sorry to say.

Signsup, to the contrary, some states DO issue VIN numbers. If you have a homebuilt or in the case of a vehicle like the M-151 where the number does not have the correct format they will issue a VIN tag that gets riveted to the body. Some states also require that you stamp the assigned VIN into the frame, Moot point on a unibody vehicle.

Will, I have seen Encores with the door mounting channel. May have been added later but the one I know of has the full M-151 top on it. Doors and footman loops on the sides. And yes, on the tail gate.

The windshield hinge and windshield placement is a little weird. That will give some real issues in adding doors.

Good eye Dave, Is that a custom made top then? The one I know about has all the original hardware on it so the windshield must be in the stock location on that one.

states don't issue VIN numbers. They are are the vehicle. So the title should state that it is a 1998 something. Encore? Jeep? Truck?
I think the intent with these threads is not to convince you that what you purchased was misrepresented, but just to make sure you are "street legal". Guy in our local MVPA has an Encore and din't think we'd let him join the club because it was not "military". It looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, so we don't care. If he's happy, we're happy. His is 24 v and he has issues with a Chinese coil and club members are helping him out with finding an orriginal . Is yours still 25v? or converted to something else.

By the way, here's a photo of my mutt . . .
still 24v no issues with it running though

here is a picture of the florida issued vin number.

That title makes sense although the Make "ASPT" has me stumped. The company name was Encore Vehicles. That does not mean the actual company name was not something else hence the title name. There should be a VIN plate on the firewall on the engine side of the firewall to the left of the clutch pedal. About dead center in front of the driver.

I'll have to check I remember the previous owner saying he had the firewall stamped when the vin was issued . The aspt means assembled from parts title

Aha, interesting. It doesn't really matter since it has a title. I am just curious for future reference if the original tag is if that is how it is labeled on the original VIN tag. There was a thread a while ago on the G838 I think where a guy bought a Encore thinking it was a 151, it is common so you are not alone, And I could see the VIN tag on the firewall but i'll be darned if I can find that post again.

Jumping in on this a little late, but I also have an Encore along with a number of M151s. You can clearly tell yours is not an M151 (or A1 or A2), just by the firewall alone. Lots of other differences in the body.

They're fun vehicles to drive and get a lot of attention. The guy I bought mine from sold it as an Encore M151A2. No real misrepresentation there. It has a Florida title as a 1998 ENCR. Primary brand is listed as "Kit Car". It is totally configured as an early A2. No emissions, 60 Amp alternator, 24 VDC, and A2 rear suspension.

Is yours the one listed on Craigslist now, in Boca, as a 1967 M151A1?

https://miami.craigslist.org/pbc/cto/5574137338.html

That one does have a lot of A1 parts (steering wheel, grill, and flat front fenders). However, it has the 60 amp alternator, three fan belts, and I bet it has the A2 rear suspension, so that ad may be bit misleading.

It looks in better shape than mine, and I paid more than what you are asking. I could probably sell it up here on Singer Island for more than that.

The red one is the Encore
