Elbow Fitting Needed for PCV Piping

Post by w30bob » Tue Jun 13, 2017 6:33 am

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know where to get the 90 degree reducing elbow circled in the pic below? It goes from 1/8 NPT Female to 1/4 NPT Female. I've been able to source all the other fittings from Weatherhead or Parker, but no one seems to offer the 90 degree reducing elbow with both ends female. It's supposed to be made of steel per the ORD, but if it's being made today it's being made in brass. The ORD part number is 8329637 or WO-807430.

Or if someone has one laying in the bottom of their toolbox and would part with it...........I'm game! Just shoot me your price and address.

thanks,
bob

It is just a brass 90 with 1/8" pipe fittings.Any auto parts store should have them.

Go on eBay, Female Reducing Elbow 1/4"Pipe to 1/8" Pipe. Look for Iron, brass is OK.

Hi Guys,

Been to every hardware store within 50 miles, called McMaster, checked the Parker and Eaton catalogs...........no such animal. I've also lived on eBay since the day it started and can find almost anything and it's not there either. The only ones on eBay are street elbows (rough round castings) and one cast brass elbow that looks nothing like the original fitting. Everyone has these in 1/8NPT to 1/8 NPT or 1/4NPT to 1/4NPT, but not reducing female to female. Everyone also has reducing 1/4 FNPT to 1/8 MNPT.

I even bought a couple 1/8 FNPT to 1/8 FNPT machined brass that looked similar to the original fitting hoping I could drill and tap one side to 1/4.......but there isn't enough material in the fitting to make it happen. I may just have to buy a hunk of steel and have a machine shop make the darn thing for me. Oh........I tried cross referencing the ORD part numbers (ordinance and WO numbers) and can't even find a cross for it anywhere. Seems to be one strange animal.

thanks,
bob

You will need a 1/4"npt brass 90 and a 1/4-1/8 bushing.I doubt you will find the original part as apparently they were only made specially for this application only.

Ok..........guess I'm not explaining this right.....my bad. But radtech gets it. Sure, they make tons of 90 degree reducing elbows.......brass, cast iron, etc......but none of them look remotely close to the original part. 8329637 looks like a square/rectangular block of steel machined flat on all sides except one, drilled and tapped for 1/8 FNPT on one side and 1/4 FNPT on the other. The other reducing elbows out there will work.........but will look like something from under your sink. As radtech said..........they must have been made special.

But after more digging last night I may have found a way around this problem. Instead of using the correct unobtainium steel block female to female reducing elbow I can use a brass block reducing elbow that goes 1/4 female to 1/8 MALE (just changing the 1/8 female to male)..............if I switch the branch tee it connects to from a 602x5, which has the male 1/8 NPT on the top, to a 652x5, which has a female 1/8 hole on top. It won't be technically correct, but when screwed together you won't be able to tell if the male end is on the reducing elbow or the branch tee.........it will just like two blocks of brass connected by a small nipple. With a little steel color paint it'll look original! But what a friggin' pain in my arse.

Thanks boys. And if you do ever run across one of these square steel reducing elbows I still want it. I'm going to frame it and put it on my wall to remind me that restoring MVs isn't always fun.

thanks,
bob

I believe this fitting was also made in brass, I've got several original setups on m38a1's as well as an original in Willys shipping crate whole complete engine assembly dated 1962 and they appear to be made of brass. Image

I have the square brass 1/4" by 1/4" brass 90 also a 1/4'x1/8" brass bushing....you could screw in a brass bushing in one side and grind off whatever protrudes above the face of the 90 and viola there ya go you wont be able to tell......40 yrs as a pipefitter.

Bazooka,

That's a great idea! Now I'll go see if I can find the 1/4" 90 you guys are showing. So far I've only been able to find 90's (in brass) that have one whole side machined down around the threads. I just got some Edelmanns yesterday and they were the same way........although the catalog pic looked just like what you guys have.

thanks,
bob
