What's in the Box?
I had to take my Ben Hur trailer to Fastenal last night after work to pick up a very important box. I was taken a'back at the cost to ship this box from Missouri, only $245.00. Go Fastenal!!
I know that this is the GEN SETS and COMPRESSORS section and all you see is a crummy trailer, but the ambient environment is leaking copious amounts of physical moisture which is preventing the removal of the contents of the box. Tomorrow is supposed to be a little more favorable for said exercise which may lead to more photographs. I ask for patience in this matter, more will be revealed . Thank You for your co-operation.

Re: What's in the Box?
Well Gents, the ambient environment was favorable today. Thanks to the Great Spirit, maker of all life!! I was able to remove my newest acquisition from its' shipping container, an O'Keefe and Merritt 3 KW E-3 Generator. I have been looking for one of these for about 10 years. They are a little difficult to find, in my experience. Here are some photos for your viewing pleasure. I am not a fan of the blue paint, but that will be remedied soon.
The control panel looks to be in pretty good shape with only 1 piece of glass broken. I wonder where I can find a Glazier who can repair it.
I had to get it off the pallet while it was in the trailer. This Gennie is not exactly light at 720 lbs.
I re-positioned my gantry, and getting it to the ground was made easier. But first, more photos.
The hand crank is present and accounted for and the engine turns over very smoothly. I checked the oil to see where the level was, and it is full and clean. So hopefully the internals are serviceable.
Now you boys KNOW that the wrap around the muffler is Asbestos. I am going to have to find a way to safely encapsulate it. The engine and compartment are quite clean as far as oil leaks and muck are concerned.
I am very happy to see the protective screen over the Gen. Head. Things may be pretty nice inside here too. At the very least, the critters were kept out.
The electrical system looks to be okay too. I may be able to get away with cleaning up the terminals and using the existing wires.
Here it rests for now. I have some other work ahead of this project, but she is in the barn and on the schedule for the future.
Thanks for looking, that is all for now.

That’s a really nice generator DRH. Great pick up. Looks fairly complete and original.
Now just add some OD and fire it up!

Hello,
That is very nice indeed, a great acquisition, and in such good, well cared for shape !!
Good luck, I hope it starts right up

Re: What's in the Box?
Thanks Beers and Ray for the compliment. I just looked at my photos and enlarged the instrument panel. It looks as if the hour meter shows only 191.8 hours of operation. Who can really tell with out it running and being able to see the gauge operate. Ya know? I need to build a wheeled base for it so I can move it around and not have to work on it right on the ground.

Great project there, I couldn't get up enough umph to turn the crank and start the engine when it got cold out. Just went back and look at the pictures of it as I sold it to somebody in MI. Not the same one though.

Do you have any more photos of that generator Adam? It sure looks to be the same as mine, the panel layout is the same and everything is in the same locations as mine.

Re: What's in the Box? Update; 28 Jan. 2018.
I think we are having a bit of confusion here. What I meant by "same as mine" should have been clarified to mean "same model". My E-3 came from Missouri where it had been purchased from surplus in 1948 then occasionally used on the family farm by the deceased patriarch. It had been mounted on a small non-military trailer for better ease of transport. The man I bought it from purchased it when he was at the estate for a sale and saw it in the barn. It was not part of the estate sale, rather slotted for the scrap heap. He rescued it about 7 to 8 months ago, then decided he had too many projects to care for and let the gen. go.
Now, if your generator isn't an E-3, can you remember which model it is? Do you have a picture of the data plate that is located on the panel door? I am very curious. I have a 'thing' for trucks, trailers and generators by the way.

Looks very similar to my cousins 1942 Hobart made M-3 or 5 generating unit made to power AA guns. Very nice find.
