Are they 4006UT for the M38 or 4006AUT for the M38A1.The M38 and M38A1 have different advances which is why one is M38 is UT and the M38A1 is AUT.

And you are aware that Distributor IAU-4006AUT Supersedes IAU-4006 UT in the latest M-38 ORD9 dated 1956?

The advance curves are different between the two as well as the advance springs. Also the AUT is not correct for a production M38.

That's correct, but they updated to the IAU 4006AUT for a reason. Perhaps not so much on this particular installation, but some updates meant increased performance or reliability. The earliest Distributor (Not the ones being offered) with the early Ignition Filter was a time bomb and could leave the driver walking. I prefer reliability and upgrades that improved driveability to sitting alongside the roadway.

ORD 7358569 is the IAU-4006 AUT, you have 2
ORD 7355596 is the IAU-4006 UT, all will function fine in either the M-38 and M-38A1, both Jeeps could be found with either after having a distributor change.

Are the Distributors still available? Can you post some pictures, where are you located?
Who rebuilt them and when? When rebuilt were bushings and springs replaced?

Thanks
