Thanks for posting these photos.
The picture of the Dodge reminds
me of a story a old Veteran told
me once. His unit was out training
and he witnessed a airdrop of a
Dodge truck. He said when the
truck hit the ground the wheels
flew back up 50ft or better.

I have witnessed M-38A1 Jeeps that had the wheelhousings and fenders shoved up out of place. The Gov't shrugs it all off.

Sweet Photo's. 8)

face it, the Dodge wussed out; it got scared of jumping (being shoved out the back of the aircraft) and imploded (shyt on itself) on impact, and was subliquently washed out of the Army. Unlike it's little cousin, the ever strong, adgile, and fearless A1! "GERONIMO"

I wonder how far the locking ring from the rear tire went?

Wow, great series of pictures!! Seems like it's so much harder to find pics of M38A1's in service now than those of MB's. Thanks for posting!

A 434th C-119 being loaded for an improved serial delivery system named "Alamo Slingshot," that was tested by the Air Force to enable Air Force cargo aircraft to re-supply ground units with almost pinpoint accuracy. With the slingshot system, the C-119 aircraft could catapult its complete cargo load from the plane in just four and a half seconds. This official U.S. Air Force photo was released August 1966.

Looking at those fenders & grill drooping, I wonder how many times that particular A1 got sling-shotted out the back of a plane!

Guys, that wasn't an accident with the Dodge. It was a top secret, prototype inflatable
