M38 original color (need your help)

Post by fernando_italy » Fri Jan 19, 2018 6:43 am

Hello,
my name is Fernando and I am posting from Italy.
My cousin and I are the lucky owners of the old M38 truck that you can see in the links listed below, that had been bought by our fathers in the 50's. Now my cousin and I are going to start a long and tough restoration work, and for that purpose we need to find out if its color could is original and, in this case, to which US armed force or civilian organization it corresponds.

I think 23070 is the closest match to the original color manufactured today.

Your M38 is nice and original. Under the hood looks all stock. The date of delivery is January 1952. My M38 is just 2 months earlier. Do you know where you father purchased this M38? You stated in the 50"s. It would be neat if could find pictures. Also, you may be able to recover the original hood numbers. Origina data plates are there. Nice M38, John

Hi colour should be 2430 od semi gloss . Try for match from plate on firewall where wiring harness comes through to dash .Also behind data plates. Clean off any oxidisation and find a local source who will match your factory colour. I have struggled myself with this issue here in the U,K. as it is not possible to import the correct paint from the states. Also you have a great starting point with your 38 as it's in realy great original trim . best Regards and good luck with your restoration Bernard.

Yes, 23070 is the same as the original 2430, to me. Here is my M38, which I am working on now, only this was last fall and now it is 6 degrees here. Fahrenheit.
You could take a sample of dried paint to a paint store and they can mix it for you.
