FUEL PUMP QUESTION

Post by JMZ421 » Fri Jul 29, 2016 3:51 pm

In the Amry, back in say 1963, if a M38 had a carburator being flooded by excesssive fuel pressure, would the motorpool just place a NEW fuel pump on the M38 or add additional gaskets to lower fuel pressure, AS MENTIONED IN THE TM Manual. How much can one additional gasket at the block reduce fuel pressure(PSI}
This assumes the 1/2 inch metal spacer is already in place. Thanks John

Fuel pump pressure is totally governed by the diaphragm return spring.

My M38 is running much better now. I replaced the PCV valve and tightned a fording line and all of a sudden she started idling like it should.
I had my original fuel pump rebuilt. After a month on the road, I notice oil accumulating on the top section of the lower chamber after I shut the engine down. I tightned the long mounting bolts and looked around but cannot see anything. I do not see any leaks near the gasket or that thick spacer. Any ideas? Again, it is oil. Thanks John

These pumps have a habit of oil migrating to the lower chamber. Early signs of oil may have to do with the features of the kit.

I think the oil sitting on top of the lower chamber of my fuel pump is be coming from the shaft that the fuel pump arm rides on. I placed a dab of silicon on the right side and it appears nothing is accumualting there. Now, the flow is from the left side but the frame of the vehicle will not allow me to view that shaft hole on that side. I do not think the recent rebuild would have corrected this, just new gaskets I assume. Is it OK to place a dab of permatex to stop the leak?
Thanks John
