I checked the manual on my external hard drive. It is a CDN welder jeep and the manual has several other types of CDN M38 and M38A1 configurations. A member of our group mailed it to me last winter and I scanned it into a PDF.

I will get it up later this week.

Here is the photo of the CDN welder jeep. It used a hobart welder if I remember.

And note that the Welder is Gasoline Engine Powered, most likely by a Wisconsin or Onan. It is not PTO driven, and is also similar to the Welder in the M-880 and M-715 Type Engineers Contact Trucks

Aberdeen during 1962 had a lot going on. During the week one could hear artillery testing going every hour on the hour, there was a .50 test version of the Gatling Gun that was fired on a regular schedule and plenty of Armor on display. Instructors were a mix of Civilian and Army, one instructor, Mr. Rogers was 73 years old and got his start as a machinist at Cadillac hand scraping engine bearings. The Commander of the Machinists School was CWO Grube, he was a soldier's soldier and served us ice cream sandwiches during afternoon class break. WO Grube brought in a radio so that the class could witness John Glen on his famous space flight. Duty was great, the class marched the half mile from the company area to the school twice a day, there was ugly Master SGT in an M-38 marked "Courtesy Patrol" that would get behind the formation and play marching music to shape up the marching troops and God Bless those that did not Post and Recover Road Guards in the proper manner. My class included two Vietnamese Ordnance Sgts that were proud of their CCKW's and CJ-3B's back in their unit. WAC's Barracks was across the street and our chow hall served the WAC's and Ordnance Headquarters, General Hinrichs, Chief of Ordnance often ate there, he was a gentleman and often shared a table with the EM. The mess hall was unique as it had orderlies and the EM could join a table with a WAC or Officer by asking permission. Our 1st Sgt Vladimir Tickey was a WWII Ranger.
Col Jarrett was the curator of the Ordnance Museum , he squirreled a lot of the collection at his farm during lean museum times and was a great person to meet and talk to. During WWII Col. Jarrett was responsible for evaluating captured enemy weapons.

A friend of mine has an m38 that was most likely a wlder jeep. It has a pto with a large pulley on it and a mud guard. The jeep is also missing its toolbox.

There were 26 flags in front of Ordnance Headquarters at Aberdeen when I was stationed there. Each representing the friendly foreign nation assigned to the many activities going on at Aberdeen. Some, such as Iran, Libya, Iraq etc., have not been so friendly in the years since. I believe I have already mentioned that I used to drink Coca Cola at the PX Cafeteria with some of the Iraqui Army Officers attending US Army Ordnance Officers Orientation Course. one friendly officer was later on that famous deck of cards, Ibrahim al-Douri was his name. The world sure has changed.

"What goes around, comes around", so much for "friendly foreign nations".
