REAR MAIN OIL SEAL

Post by artificer » Sat Apr 07, 2018 9:54 am

Watched Wheeler Dealers Season 12 Episode 3 again this morning.
One might be able to find on YouTube or similar

This episode was about refurbishment of an MGA including a leak from the rear main bearing area.
A novel way to achieve this using a full circle oil seal, secured & sealed on the engine plate then running on a shrink fit sleeve on the crank flange did the job.
Easy to see what was needed in the video with full verbal description given.

Someone may wish to give this a whirl as it is not too difficult & might be a perfect solution replacing rope & neoprene type split seals.
Full circle seals are in perfect alignment with all modern sealing methods.

On review there is a major difference in the BMC/Leyland B series engine plate mounting to the engine block [ability to seal the plate to the engine block] v/s the L134 engine plate. This issue can perhaps be overcome with some simple imaginative engineering.

The only way to win with a toxic person is not to play.
